McBride Groundbreaking

The late Ernest McBride Sr., founder of the Long Beach Branch NAACP, will have a school named in his honor. 

Demille Middle School will be a Long Beach Unified School District Charter School named in honor of our Long Beach Branch NAACP Founder, the late Mr. Ernest McBride Sr.  The Long Beach Branch NAACP has been instrumental in the naming of the park and this school.

Long Beach Branch was awarded two
Thalheimer Awards at the 2011 NAACP National
Convention in Los Angeles.

The Long Beach Branch NAACP received two 2011 National Thalheimer Awards.
The award areas are for the branch's Newspaper and Branch Programs.
The annual award recognizes Branches for outstanding work in the
implementation of the Association's strategic priorities and goals mandated by
the National Board of Directors ie., building membership, enhancing advocacy,
rebuilding legal capacity, criminal justice, civil rights compliance, civic engagement
and enforcement by governmental and non-governmental entities, economic
empowerment, educational equity, health advocacy and political empowerment.
President Naomi Rainey stated: "The Branch has won nine awards prior. This national recognition would not be received without the hard work of the Long Beach Branch NAACP Officers, Executive Committee, members and supporters."  Long Beach Branch NAACP has garnered 11 Thalheimer Awards since Naomi Rainey has been president.
