Get To Know NAACP
The NAACP, founded in New York in 1909 and headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland is a 501(c) 3 entity comprised of seven regions representing 49 states, 5 countries and the District of Columbia. The National Office has responsibility for providing guidance to NAACP regional offices, state conferences and local units by supporting them in their efforts to carry out the initiatives of the Association at the grassroots level.
The NAACP 64-member Board of Directors meets four times per year to conduct the business of the Association. The Board sets policies focused on moving the Association forward as it relates to advocacy, litigation, social and criminal justice issues, economic development and youth outreach.
NAACP's National Focus
The NAACP has been leading the effort for social justice for nearly 100 years. Anyone who supports the mission of the NAACP irrespective of race, religion, political affiliation and ideology can become a member of the Association. The Association is comprised of thousands of Units and tens of thousands of members and volunteers nationwide. Unyielding in our purpose, the NAACP ensures the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens through democratic processes.
NAACP's Grassroots Network
The NAACP Regional Offices are located in California, New York, Michigan, Missouri, Georgia, Texas, and Maryland. Each regional office serves as a mentor to states in that region. They provide guidance with regard to the Association's policy, procedure and civil rights agenda. Every local Unit chartered in a particular state works closely with the State Conference arm of the NAACP. The NAACP units can be found in any of the seven regions, each with a staff of volunteers to address the needs of the community and the membership. Currently, there are approximately 2,200 adult branches and 1,700 youth and college chapters.

You may join online at the NAACP website (be sure to specify the Long Beach, California NAACP Branch as your Unit Affiliation), or come to our meetings held on the third Sunday of each month at 1550 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.
